5. Payday was on a friday, Cass got a check even tho she didn’t work for the company. How strange.

6. Being kind in times of conflict isn’t weakness, it’s actually being the bigger man and not stooping down to their level.

7. Last I checked, I’m partnered with a CPA, so yes my stuff is clean.

8. Proper sentences and punctuation never hurt anyone.

9. Paying someone $325 a week for a $600+ a week job and stealing their commission to pay your own bills is a favor apparently.

10. Last but not least… upgrading from 1.5mb/896kb DSL to 7mb/896kb DSL improves Vonage VoIP phone service. I never knew that!

And yes, when the father came over, I was very nice to him even tho the wife wanted to lock him out of the house + call the cops. I invited him in, smiled, was very polite, and helped him out to his truck with his equipment. I’ll even forgive him for swearing in front of the kids, he just wasn’t in the right frame of mind I’m sure. I just felt sorry for him having to be the bad guy, just like I felt bad for Bob. These poor guys are taken advantage of on a daily basis, and I just can’t help but have sorrowful feelings for that. And the worst part of all, I think they know it.

That’s really starting to get on my nerves a bit whenever she throws the Boss word around. If your company is handing out 1099’s at the end of the year, your workers = independent contractors. There is a very huge difference between that and an employee.

And what is actually bringing this all to my attention is the fact that tina said something about holding money out of Cassie’s check because of a screwup. You’re treating her like an employee when it’s convenient, and a contracted worker when it’s convenient.

Today I encountered an awesome problem. Emails originating from my client’s network, but not from the the mailserver (after a few hours of monitoring). Their domain had been blacklisted on 10 different lists. We thought we had it figured out yesterday by using MalwareBytes’ Anti-malware program, but today we had even more mail issues.

So, with all my awesome knowledge (haha), I finally decided to use my laptop running Ubuntu Hardy as the internet gateway. After a minimal amount of setup involving iptables to setup NAT, setting up the route, and setting up 2 nics, we were ready to go. I used EtherApe to monitor all the traffic, and after about 10 minutes, saw HUGE amounts of SMTP traffic coming from one node on the network. The PC in action was the pc in question yesterday which we used Anti-Malware on. So, we found another program called RegRun Reanimator which did the trick! No more rootkit here, and the knowledge gained along the way… priceless.

Holy hell and a half was this a chore to setup. Followed some manual install instructions on Scalix’s wiki for Gutsy and Scalix 11.3, and most everything was close to the same. I could probably do it again if i needed to.

Currently have this working on an Intel, Atom based motherboard with 2gb ram. It runs very smooth. I’m running Ubuntu 8.04 server, scalix 11.4.1, unison 2.30, and unsure of the version of Ebox (whatever is current). Ebox is a great web administration tool, I’m currently using it solely for it’s Samba administration and network interface management. Scalix is taking place of exchange, which I normally would have used in this environment. Unison is for off-site backups to my file server. So far so good, but it’s only been a few days. Will post back more as things progress.

I compiled the newest version of rdesktop on my HP 620LX last night, needless to say that’s amazing. And when it was all done, it actually worked! I am impressed…

Starting to have screen problems. I think it’s heat related. My poor lil Lilliput 619 can’t take these New Mexico summers. The screen display blanks out, but the touchscreen still works. Fixed by a power cycle. Pretty bizarre…
